SUBQUESTIONS:
1. Describe your school (number of pupils, what kind of building, etc). Add some pictures.
ANS: Our school, G.D Somani , is an 8-storey building consisting of 1050 children, our school facilities include a basketball court, a spacious ground , library , computer lab and labs for science as well as a canteen , we have separate rooms for arts , craft and home science, along with two auditoriums and an assembly hall. Our school also promotes various activities such as , karate , fencing , archery , basketball , football , aeromodelling and music. Many events take place in our school , these events include singing competitions, arts and craft competitions, quizzes , sports day, Aquatic meet, etc. We have many educational trips which give plenty of opportunities for students to introduce themselves to a new surrounding and explore it. Our school is divided into two sections:
The primary section which consists of classes from 1st to 4th grade.
Secondary section which consists of classes from the 5th to the 10th grade.
2. Rubbish produced at our school.
Measure the amount of rubbish produced in two days. Make pictures.
ANS: About 12 buckets of waste is produced everyday
3.Are younger students producing more rubbish than older students . What about boys and girls?
ANS: The secondary students produce more waste comparatively. The boys in the school produce more waste than the girls.
4.What kind of rubbish is being produced by students at school (plastic, paper, food, etc.)?
ANS: Majority of the waste produced in our school consists of newspapers and food waste.
5. What happens with the rubbish? What happens with the rubbish after the break?
ANS: The rubbish collected after break is collected by the BMC in their trucks which later on finds its way to the dumping grounds.
6.Are students involved in collecting the rubbish, in cleaning the canteens?
ANS: No.
7. Why are students throwing rubbish on the ground?
ANS: This behaviour by the students is due to lack of self-awareness as well as discipline.
SCHOOL POLICY
1. What is the school policy about use of paper/recycling paper?
ANS: As of now there is no such policy, however our teachers feel that it is up to the students to maintain discipline and not litter the school.
2.Are there any methods to recycle waste at school/separate garbage?
ANS: G.D Somani Memorial School follows a policy of ‘segregation of waste’ on its premises. For this, two separate dustbins have been kept in each class-one for dry waste and the other for wet waste.
3. What are the school regulations about rubbish/chewing gum .What happens if a student throws something on the ground?
ANS: Our school does not have any strict policies about littering, however if a teacher catches a student doing so, he/she shall be punished.
4.Has ICT-technology contributed to reduce the use of paper at school?
ANS: Yes, ICT-technology (Information and Communication Technology) has contributed to reduce the use of paper in our school. We have power point presentations (PPT) as projects, this has greatly helped us in reducing the usage of paper. We try to incorporate ICT technology as much as we can to further prevent wastage of paper.
5.Which methods can be used to limit the amount of rubbish? Name at least two.
ANS: Two effective methods to reduce the amount of rubbish in our school are as follows:
1.Buy classrooms materials that are durable and, if possible, include recycled content
2. Route messages and publications. Instead of distributing individual messages for all the staff, make one copy and attach a routing sheet.

But, there is a small confusion regarding which dustbin signifies which type of waste.Perhaps tags could be put on the dustbins to make it clearer for the students.
