An Interview with the manager of a power-saving company
On the 5th of December, 2016, my team and I ventured towards the residence of Mr. Siddharth Arora, the manager and founder of the ecological, power-saving company Solasys pvt. ltd., a company aspiring towards making India a solely Solar-energy consuming country. We received some extremely interesting answers over the general tete-a-tete.
What inspiration triggered this idea?
Well, I was on a holiday with my family, and the thing was that we were eating lunch in a really posh hotel, but just after a few moments, there was this power cut, and the entire afternoon was spent sweating and just wondering when the power will return. During that time, I kept wondering that if we could have this way of making sure that there was constant and uninterrupted power supply 24/7. I went home(Mumbai) with this idea, and so, I put together a team to start research on the possible ways of having constant energy supply. And after a few months, we all arrived at the conclusion that using solar energy, a non-perishable substance, seemed like the most feasible option to attain our goal. It is a major renewable source of energy, unlike the currently being used fossil fuels, even hydro-electricity, which have to be used under constant check.
But ,I'm sure you've heard this as well, isn't it expensive?
That is one of the biggest challenges that my company has, and is still facing. While many of my employees still work towards the various ways of reducing the cost behind installing solar panels, the process is still expensive. However, once completed, you can see the process as a form of investment, as the electricity tax reduces a s well, thus saving your money, and the money spent over the installation is recovered in a span of a few years maximum.
Does you house have solar panels as well?
Yes, in fact, my house in Delhi does, and as you can see, my farmhouse here in Vasai, does too. In fact, my sister has installed solar panels off late as well. She was doubtful about the installment costs being so high, but the advantages managed to convince her.
What about reducing the power bill?
It is hard to believe, but trust me, after the installation (of the solar panels) my electricity bill has reduced tenfold, and in the summers, it's even more so.
Do you happen to have a solar cooker at your house?
Not here, but I have a one in Delhi, and so does my neighborhood.
Coming to the more technical bit, how exactly do these solar panels work?
Honestly, you should have asked this question to one of my employees, he's better at these explanations than I am. But simply put, a works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity. Solar panels actually comprise many, smaller units called photovoltaic cells, which individually complete the work and store the energy in your normal batteries.
And what are your future plans for this company?
As I said, we are working towards reducing the cost of the installation process, and once we achieve that, I hope that this source of energy will extend all over India, boosting India's economy, and development factor. Also, once I have a greater number of employees working in the firm, I'll start work on generating electricity from wind, a process which has already begun, but not reached the heights it can.
Thank you for giving us your time, and valuable feedback, and we are glad that there are people like you who are concerned about the environment and its resources, while they aspire towards a sustainable future. Once again, thank you for your time, and we wish you good luck for all your future endeavors.
The interview ended on a high note, as we rose to take our leave. We had realized how much we have done, and how much more there is to achieve, towards saving the environment by saving energy at home. Many families are strict about cutting off on unnecessary consumption of electricity, but there is still a long way for us all to go. However, as the leaders of tomorrow, we shall consistently aspire towards saving electricity at our homes.
