Saving energy at home
We are the Dream Chasers! This Group includes Ann-Cathrin, Lisa, Chhayaanka and Raoul. We chose this name because we want to help everyone with their dream and we thought it did sound very nice. We are all 4 in 2TTA and we really like to speak English. We have to talk about enery and energy saving in our house. We all hope this is going to be a fun project and we of course want to learn something too. I hope you know something about us more and about what we are going to write about. Have fun reading our project!XX Ann-Cathrin, Lisa, Chayaanka and Raoul

Action plan
We divided the jobs. We will do 5 interviews at the Heyhoef. We need to identify methods to save energy at home. We will work 2 days a week on this. We also have like a date when it needs to be finished, then Lisa can check the grammar mistakes and Raoul can put it on the website. Our collaboration is really good, because we really understand each other.
What do I expect to find?
We are trying to find a lot of new information that we didn’t know. Maybe we will find out more ways to save energy at home. We are excited to see the results. We hope you are going to enjoy this project as much as we do.

Saving energy at home
1. heating
lower the termostat every time you leave the house.
Raise the temperature slowly to keep your bill lower. Quickly raising your heat pump's temperature activates the heat strip, which uses tons of energy.
Add a carpet on the floor. When you have a carpet on your floor, the heat will stay in the house. It’s a kind of isolation.
Don’t block ventilation systems with drapes and furniture.
Heat your home with the sun’s help. When you leave windows open during the daytime the warmth of the sun comes in your house (not in the winter).
2. Lighting
Use the right bulb. Make sure you’re using the appropriate CFL bulb for your light fixture – they come in various sizes and types for different lighting needs.
Consider using timers to turn lights on in the morning and off during the day.
Replace halogen light bulbs with CFL bulbs. They use less energy and don’t get as hot as the halogen light bulbs.
Install fluorescent tubes. It’s an efficient way to light your workshop or playroom.
3. Electronics
Consider a laptop next time you're looking to buy a computer – they use less energy than desktop computers.
Set your computer to sleep or hibernate mode instead of using a screen saver so it uses less electricity during periods of inactivity.
Unplug battery chargers when the batteries are fully charged or the chargers are not in use. Many chargers draw power continuously.
Plug electronics into a power strip. Turn the strip off when not in use to save energy costs.
4. cooling
Of all energy at home we use 17% for cooling. But how can we make sure we don’t use that much?

4. cooling
Of all energy at home we use 17% for cooling. But how can we make sure we don’t use that much?
- Make sure your windows are always closed in the winter so cold air won’t be inside your house.
- A room air conditioner uses at least 10% less than all the standard models like floorheating.
- But if it’s hot inside make sure the windows are open so you don’t need any cooling in your house.
5. others
- For other things than light, heating etc. we use 11%. We use this for adapters, gaming, charging, watching tv and much more but how can we make it 0%?
- When you are not charging anything unplug your device.
- Buy a video game console that is not using a lot of power/energy.
- If you forgot to unplug your device then put it on the standby mode. That is the second best option to save a lot of energy.
- Conclusion: We already learned a lot about saving energy. We didn’t know a lot about it but because of the atricles we are already much further with this project. Now we have heard this energy and now we really want to save energy too.We hope you are going to save energy at home too.
Interview video
Interview
Interview 1:
- Are you a men or a woman?
( We didn’t ask that, because we already saw that of course. )
I’m a woman. - How old are you?
I’m 43 years old. - Do you save energy?
Yes, but the standard things, not all the green energy and stuff. - Do you know a lot about saving energy?
No, I don’t really know a lot, but I think I don’t have to know a lot. - For what do you use the most energy?
Heating right now, because it’s very cold outside. - Do you use solar panels?
No, I don’t, because I rent a house. - For what do you use less energy?
I think cooking. I cook a lot at home, but it’s not something that I use the most energy for. - What do you think of saving energy?
I think it’s really good, but I won’t do a lot of things that are for green energy. - Are you going to tell the people to save energy?
No, I’m sorry. - Are you thinking about saving energy after these questions?
Yes maybe. I still want to think about it.
Interview 2:
- Are you a men or a woman?
( We didn’t ask that, because we already saw that of course. )
I’m a woman. - How old are you?
I’m 52 years old. - Do you save energy?
A little bit. - Do you know a lot about saving energy?
I know some things about saving energy, but not that much. - For what do you use the most energy?
I think the clothes dryer. - Do you use solar panels?
No, because I live in an apartment. - For what do you use less energy?
I think watching television, because we never watch so much television on a day. - What do you think of saving energy?
I think it’s an amazing idea. - Are you going to tell people to save energy?
Yes, I’ll try, because a lot of people talk about that around this time. - Are you going to think about saving energy after these questions?
Yes, but it’s not that we always forget to turn off the lights. We also think about that.
Interview 3:
- Are you a men or a woman?
( We didn’t ask that, because we already saw that of course. )
I’m a woman. - How old are you?
I’m 70 years old. - Do you save energy?
A little bit, but I always try to turn the lights off and remove the plugs. - Do you know a lot about saving energy?
Only the standard things. Not too much. - For what do you use the most energy?
I think cooking. That’s my passion. - Do you use solar panels?
No, because I live in a flat. - For what do you use less energy?
Watching television and electronica. - What do you think about saving energy?
I think it’s very useful. It’s an amazing idea. - Are you going to tell people to save energy?
I already do that. I tell the people to remove their plugs and turn off their lights. - Are you going to think about saving energy after these questions?
I’m already doing that enough.
Interview 4:
1. Are you a man or a woman? ( We didn't ask that, because we already saw that of course. )
I'm a man.
2. How old are you?
I'm 14 years old.
3. Do you save energy?
Yes. A little bit, but only the standard things like turning off the lights.
4. Do you know a lot about saving energy?
No, not really.
5. For what do you use the most energy?
For the heating right now, because it's very cold.
6. Do you use solar panels?
No.
7. For what do you use less energy?
I think for the water. I don't shower so long.
8. What do you think of saving energy?
It's such a cool idea. Everyone can do it.
9. Are you going to tell people to save energy?
No, because I think everyone knows that they need to save energy.
10. Are you going to save energy after these questions?
Yes. I already do that, but I'll save more energy.
Conclusion
To conclude, all the responses that we saw a lot of people know much about saving energy. They know a lot about it but they don’t really use it. I hope that in the future more people are going to use the information they have to save the energy and to save the world by that. We also try to save energy but we see it’s very difficult. We also saw that not a lot of people use solar panels but that they have thought about it. I hope they are going to work it out this time. Our answer on the main research question is that we can save more energy by using less cars and by using less water. We asked what they are using the most at home and for what they are using the most energy and that was cooking, water and heating so I think we can save more energy with using less with that. Our what do I expect was a little bit true but not completely. We found a lot of information but not only information we didn't know. We had fun this project!!!
Comparison
They did a great job. Some groups could have a bit more pictures to make it more interesting. Most of the groups have a nice background and some of the information they have is the same as ours but some are different. We learned about that too. Some groups have a lot of explenation so it is clear what they were talking about. Some paragraphs were a bit vague but we liked it and we really see that everyone put a lot of effort in it.
